How to Read Your Chart: A Beginner’s Guide

Once you have a chart report in hand, do not try to take in everything at once. Start with the Day Master, move on to the Big Three, then the integrated reading—going deeper step by step in the right order.

Step One: The Day Master (BaZi Core)

The first stop in your chart report is the BaZi Day Master. The Day Master represents your core “substance”—Jia Wood, Ding Fire, Wu Earth, and so on. First understand your Day Master’s Five Element quality: Wood governs benevolence (growth), Fire governs propriety (illumination), Earth governs trustworthiness (substance), Metal governs righteousness (fortitude), and Water governs wisdom (flow).

Then look at the Day Master’s strength—born in a supporting season (such as Ding Fire in summer) it is strong; born in an off-season (such as Ding Fire in winter) it is weak. Strength determines whether you have the constitution to “bear the Wealth and Officer stars” or one that “needs Resource and Companion support.”

Step Two: The Big Three (Astrology Core)

Next, look at the astrological Big Three: Sun, Moon, and Rising. Your Sun sign is the one you know best—it represents the person you want to become. The Moon sign represents your emotional needs and inner world, and the Rising sign represents the face you present to the world.

Pay attention to the relationships among the Big Three—same element (for example, Sun in Leo + Moon in Aries + Rising in Sagittarius, all Fire) suggests inner harmony, while different elements suggest inner tension. Tension is not a bad thing; it is often a source of creativity.

Step Three: The Psychological Portrait

If you have completed the psychological assessment, look at your MBTI type and Big Five scores. If not, you can look at the psychological portrait AI infers from your chart (tagged “derived”—we recommend verifying with an actual assessment later).

Focus on the consistency between the psychological portrait and the chart-based inference—if BaZi suggests you are expressive, your MBTI is an E type, and your Sun is in Leo, then “expressiveness” is a high-confidence signal. If the three systems differ on some aspect, that is a domain worth observing in your daily life.

Step Four: The Integrated Reading

Finally, look at the three-system integrated reading. This is the core of the report—AI cross-references the information from all three systems, identifies consistent signals and points of difference, and produces a comprehensive self-description.

The “cross-reference matrix” in the integrated reading is the most valuable part—it places each dimension’s manifestation across the three systems side by side so you can see at a glance where they agree and where they differ. Dimensions that agree are your most certain traits; dimensions that differ are space worth exploring.

  • Start with the Day Master → understand your core substance
  • Then the Big Three → understand your outer self / inner self / persona
  • Then the psychological portrait → verify intuition in scientific language
  • Finally the integrated reading → see the whole in cross-reference
  • Keep verifying in daily life → the chart is a map; you walk the road yourself
